Acclaim Signs Exclusive Deal With DC Comis to Bring 100 Bullets to Next-Gen Gaming Systems
Award-Winning Pulp Noir Comic
Universe Filled with Gritty Characters, Deadly Gun-Play and Moral Decisions
GLEN COVE, NY, June 11, 2003 - Bringing the cold, hard steel action of one of
today's most popular comic book series to the next-generation gaming systems,
Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ.SC: AKLM), today announced that it has
signed an exclusive agreement with DC Comics for the interactive publishing
rights to 100 Bullets. An award-wining pulp noir comic, 100 Bullets was created
by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, and chronicles the dark, moral-testing
exploits of Agent Graves, a rogue member of a secret organization, who provides
people with the opportunity of a lifetime - an attaché case containing the
proof, the gun, and the carte blanche immunity to exact revenge on a person
who's done them an irrevocable wrong.
"The 100 Bullets universe possesses all of the key elements that comprise what
consumers are looking for in today's games - great characters, deep storytelling
and edge-of-your-seat action," said Marc Metis, Senior Vice President of Brand
Management for Acclaim. "In keeping with its comic book origin, we will
challenge players to 'think before they shoot' and allow them to explore the
moral implications of their actions."
"We're exited to bring the first of VERTIGO's preeminent titles to the video
game consoles," said John Nee, DC Comics, Vice President - Business Development.
"This will redefine what a comic book game can be."
About 100 Bullets
Part hard-boiled crime story, part paranoid espionage thriller, 100 Bullets
follows what happens when people from all walks of life meet Agent Graves, a
mysterious figure who offers his "clients" the opportunity of a lifetime: an
attaché case containing the proof, the gun, and the carte blanche immunity to
exact revenge on a person who's done them an irrevocable wrong. But who is Agent
Graves? An emissary from an unknown government bureau? A rich man getting his
kicks from granting people a personal justice where the judicial system has
failed? Or is there something more sinister at work, a hidden framework that
links his clients' personal dramas in a twisted game of shadowy conspiracies?
Written by Brian Azzarello with art by Eduardo Risso, the ongoing monthly comic
book series 100 Bullets and its five graphic novels are published by the VERTIGO
imprint of DC Comics. The series has won numerous comic book industry awards,
including: Harvey Awards for Best Writer, Best Artist, and Best Continuing
Series; and Eisner Awards for Best Continuing Series, Best Penciller, and Best
Cover Artist. Gear Magazine called 100 Bullets "the latest comic sensation,"
while Entertainment Weekly gave the series an A-, stating it's a "revenge
fantasy turned into a hard boiled comic book."
100 Bullets will be available in 2004 across the next-generation systems at
suggested retail prices to be determined. For more information on this game,
