GamePak for Microsoft Xbox Review

The GamePak is a nice and inconspicuous way to tote around your XBox and all of its valuables.

When most gamers think “XBox”, the word “portable” doesn’t necessarily come to mind.  I mean, seriously, the thing is the size of a VCR!  However, suppose you wanted to cart your system to your friend’s house, safely and easily.  For such XBox gamers on the go, Lasr Accessories presents the GamePak, a backpack that allows you to comfortably store your XBox and its various accessories.

The GamePak fits very comfortably for whatever your taste may be.  It can be worn on your back like a backpack or you can carry it around by the rubber grip handle on the top of the pack.  Plus, the pack is devoid of any XBox logos (containing only one Lasr logo) deterring would-be thieves from knowing the pack’s cargo.

The GamePak’s main compartment has an inlayed board to provide extra rigidity to the pack, as well as absorb some of the weight of the heavy system.  There are also sleeves that can hold 8 CDs/DVDs/games, a pocket in which to store instruction booklets, and two slots for memory units.  There is also a net that will hold down two XBox controllers.  However, I found it a little difficult to squeeze in one full-size XBox controller and one Controller S into the net, so I’m thinking two full-size controllers wouldn’t really fit together.  The pack has so many other pockets and compartments for stuff, though, that this doesn’t really become a huge problem.

The GamePak has two front pockets and a front mesh pocket.  The mesh pocket will hold your keys, cell phone, or what have you.  The second pocket can hold a DVD kit, and the second slightly larger pocket will hold game guides and magazines.  So, basically, the GamePak will hold just about anything you need it to.

This is all well and good, but what happens when you arrive at your destination?  Will you have unpack all of your stuff, play for a bit, and then spend another chunk of time packing it all up?  Not with the GamePak.  The main compartment has two well-placed little vents that can be unzipped to provide ample ventilation for your system and a hole for power cords and AV cables should you choose to play your XBox in the pack.

I should say that carrying your XBox around everywhere you go isn’t a very good idea.  The XBox, like any console, is a very fragile piece of technology and trauma, like banging it in to stuff could cause serious damage to your console.  However, the GamePak provides a solid, secure way of safely transporting your console and all of its stuff.

The GamePak for Microsoft XBox is available for purchase at Lasr’s website, www.lasraccessories.com and should be available at a number of other retailers in early 2003.

Reviewer's Conclusions

Pros:
The GamePak has a ton of room and lots of compartments for all of your XBox needs.  Plus, it feels comfortable regardless of how you prefer to carry it around, be it on your back or by the grip. Its also very sturdy and provides a lot of necessary protection for your system and its parts.

Cons:
None.

Verdict: 9.5
The GamePak is a great product that allows you to transport your XBox and all of its components comfortably.  While carrying your XBox around isn’t necessarily recommended, if you’re going to do it, use the GamePak.
