Just Cause follows a classy gentleman by the name of Rico that has just been planted on an island to do some “research.” Working for an agency much like the CIA you must investigate the crimes going on in the area while making nice with the locals.

Just Cause features an entire island that is free to roam, as well as smaller surrounding land mass and underwater. The amount of space provided to the player is approximately 1,200 square miles. I only saw a small portion of the island, but it was lush with vegetation and featured many people onscreen at once. Not to mention it looked beautiful, even in its pre-alpha stage.

Rico may remind players of James Bond, but the story in Just Cause will be more serious than a 007 flick. There will be lots of politics and twists without much comedy. I was also told that Rico won’t be developed much as a character, so the player has the opportunity to mold him as they wish. The main goal will be to continue the story and play the main missions, but many side missions will be offered. Various factions on the island will offer jobs, and as you complete them you will become more popular with their group.

Other features include the ability to call in supply drops and commandeer over 100 vehicles ranging from cars and trucks to boats and planes. Unfortunately there wasn’t much else to see of the game at this point, but so far the game looks great and shows a lot of promise.
