Darn those PC gamers and their excellent collection of games we wish would hit consoles instead.  Far Cry Instincts is just one of those first-person shooter games I longed to play, no, was determined to play and luckily for console gamers like me we’re going to get a chance sometime this year.  That’s right, Far Cry is coming to the Xbox and we couldn’t be happier.

The game centers on a man named Jack Carver who goes on a routine boat trip through pristine island waters when something goes horribly wrong.  Quickly this trip becomes a struggle for survival and Carver must do everything to get through the environment against scores of dangerous mercenaries.  With enough weapons, guns and gun-mounted vehicles you’ll have enough firepower to keep breathing.  Your survival instincts also give birth to your unique abilities to set traps, track enemies and develop keen vision abilities.  You’ll also become stronger and faster as the game progresses.  Wielding two weapons was helpful in the PC game and definitely welcome in the Xbox version.

As one of the major complaints of the PC version was that the enemy AI was too tough, yank-your-hair-out-of-its-roots tough.  This version promises to feature smart AI baddies thanks to the Full Action Response AI.  Whether it means they’ll be as unforgiving as their PC counterparts is yet to be really seen but it might just be the right type of challenge for seasoned first-person shooter fans.

Visually the game looks just as sharp as the PC version and it’s great to see all the lighting and particle effects intact from the PC game.  The environments look lush and there’s a lot of area to cover and hide in when you need a spot for an ambush.

Multiplayer is also a major feature with Xbox Live support and the ability to make your own custom map in real-time and upload them on Live.  This means deathmatch games designed by you to share with other gamers out there.  There is no word on how many gamers can join in the action but the level editor already has us pretty excited since you can place gun emplacements, weapon stockpiles and hiding areas.

Look for it this year.
