“Rule Seven – Fights go on as long as they
have to…”
In the world of Fight Club, there are some simple rules – fight until your opponent can’t fight any more. Fight Club is developed by Genuine Games and published by Vivendi Universal for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. This game is derived from the movie and all characters and scenes are based on the movie.
But in spite of that link, this is a title that is all about fighting.
There are three different fighting styles in the game: boxing, martial arts and grappling. In addition, there are 10 primary characters, eight damage zones on the face and eight on the body, and you can break bones, which will affect a fighter’s performance. You can earn points during the fights, which can be used to heal your character. The game also features an arcade mode, versus and story modes of play. Gamers will be able to create a customized character and take them through the game modes.
The environments are interactive. The game will feature Xbox Live multiplayer action.
In many ways, this title is a typical fighting game that uses a locked camera angle and is primarily a bloodfest. There are certainly better fight games on the market, but the appeal of Fight Club will definitely lay in its connection to the movie. The graphical content of the game does work nicely in conjunction with the audio elements. The bone breaks are cringingly realistic, but you can avoid taking a lot of damage by tapping out during the fight.
The game does do a nice job in depicting the breaks, using a unique combination of camera angles and x-rays to show the break as it happens. And the game has seamless transitions from one venue to another. If you are fighting inside and knock your opponent through the door outside, the game does not slow down to load the next environment.
This game will be rated for Mature players and will be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
