Spectrum Warrior is shaping up to be an amazing game. The entire game is based
on a real army simulator that was reworked to be better looking and a bit more
entertaining for the public. You control groups of soldiers at a time, giving
commands to move to a new location, fire, help a wounded teammate, or take
cover. Teamwork is a very important aspect of the game, and you will use it to
your advantage to take out most of if not all the opposition.
Being a very deep game I was worried the controls may be really complicated, hindering the pace of the game, but as I watched one of the developers play I realized it was an extremely simple control system. There is a button to switch between your groups of soldiers. You then move a cursor to the location you want your team to move. The positions of each soldier show up under the cursor and as you move the cursor closer to cover, the positions change to the best formation.
Cover is also very important, since losing a teammate is not acceptable. Cover is everywhere, and different objects offer a variety of levels of cover. For example, if you hide behind a box your cover is low since the box can be shot apart. Cars offer a bit more cover, but can also be shot apart eventually. Things like building corners and planters are ideal for cover, and offer almost impenetrable defense.
Enemy AI was very good, and they’ll notice when they’re outgunned and find a place to hide. A lot of the game is pinning enemies down using one team, and them bringing your other team around to a better vantage point. With the great AI, the experience changes from person to person.
Full Spectrum Warrior is looking awesome, and will offer a very realistic battle experience. Tactics is a big thing, and the action is top notch as well, so it blends two very popular genres. Definitely keep your eye on this one, it’s looking great.
